Assistant Accountant

Mdlokovana Motor Spares and Tyres, part of the Mjuza Group of Companies, is a leading supplier of quality motor spares and tyres. The company is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Accountant.

Position Overview

The Assistant Accountant will support the finance function by ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, maintaining accounting records, and assisting with financial reporting.

The role is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, inventory-related transactions, cash management, and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting

Perform full bookkeeping duties, including maintaining accurate accounting records and the general ledger.
Capture and process daily financial transactions accurately and on time.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial reconciliations.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
Maintain proper filing and documentation of financial records.

Debtors and Creditors Management

Manage the full debtors and creditors functions.
Process supplier invoices and customer receipts accurately.
Reconcile supplier statements and customer accounts, resolving discrepancies promptly.
Monitor debtor and creditor ageing and follow up on outstanding balances.
Ensure suppliers are paid in accordance with company policies and agreed payment terms.

Bank and Account Reconciliations

Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
Prepare supplier reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
Reconcile other balance sheet accounts as assigned.

Statutory Compliance

Prepare and submit monthly VAT and PAYE returns within statutory deadlines.
Ensure compliance with all applicable tax and statutory reporting requirements.
Maintain accurate records supporting statutory submissions.

Financial Reporting

Prepare financial schedules, reports, and supporting documentation required by management.
Compile financial information and data for management reporting and decision-making.
Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts.

Audit Support

Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
Liaise with auditors and respond to audit queries.
Assist in implementing audit recommendations and maintaining strong internal controls.

Inventory Support

Assist with stock reconciliations and inventory accounting.
Support periodic stock counts and investigate stock variances.
Ensure inventory transactions are accurately recorded in the accounting system.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
A minimum of two (2) years’ proven experience in accounting or finance.
Registration with the Lesotho Institute of Accountants (LIA).
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Understanding of payroll systems and tax regulations.
High integrity and strong attention to detail.
